Union Strikes Announced for Spanish Ryanair Cabin Crew

Ryanair have stated that the airline does not expect the USO and SITCPLA strikes to cause widespread disruption to their schedule

Later this month, Ryanair Cabin Crew unions, USO and SITCPLA,  have announced that their staff in Spain are set to strike for six days.

This strike action was announced as the Union Sindical Obera (USO) revealed that it was organising strikes with other unions in Europe, such as Belgium, France, Portugal and Italy. Following reports of ‘precarious working conditions.’

The USO released a statement last month, in which it highlighted that Ryanair hadn’t made many changes to working conditions following the first European strike which took place in 2018.

An announcement of further strike action came following negotiations between USO, Ryanair and Spanish union, SITCPLA.

In response to this news, Ryanair representatives commented that the airline had reached an agreement with  Spain’s largest trade union, the Worker’s Commissions (CCOO), to help improve working conditions for Spanish-based airline staff and emphasised the airline’s commitment to the welfare of it’s cabin crew.

Planned to take place over the 24th to the 30th of June, along with the 1st to 2nd of July. Ryanair have stated that the airline does not expect the USO and SITCPLA strikes to cause widespread disruption to their schedule.

Ryanair spoke on the news of further strike action, stating that “we have negotiated collective agreements covering 90% of our people across Europe. In recent months we have been negotiating improvements to those agreements as we work through the Covid recovery phase. Those negotiations are going well and we do not expect widespread disruption this summer.”

Adding that, “Recent announcements by the much smaller USO and SITCPLA unions are a distraction from their own failures to deliver agreements after three years of negotiations and we believe that their strike calls will not be supported by our Spanish crews.”
