Authorities at Changi Airport faced a tense situation  yesterday (Wednesday 16 December) as two lions, set to be loaded onto a Singapore Airlines flight, escaped from their container.

Experts from Singapore’s Mandai Wildlife Group, which operates Singapore Zoo and Night Safari  were called in to help with the situation.

These lions had little desire to roam the grounds of the airport. However, one lion jumped on top of the cage during a stand-off with animal control officers

After this standoff, the big cats were then tranquillised and transported to Mandai’s animal quarantine facility along with five other lions.

Speaking about the situation, Singapore Airlines said that the lions luckily did not break out of the protective netting placed around the container, prior to loading the plane.

Authorities have refused to state where the lions came from or where they are travelling to .
