Thousands of People Fill the Streets for Tenerife Carnival

Thousands of people filled the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife throughout the last couple of weeks

Thousands of people filled the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife throughout the last couple of weeks, who after a two-year break due to the pandemic, were eagerly awaiting the return of its most fun and multitudinous festival. The first weekend alone brought together 350,000 people in the island’s capital, who enjoyed the night dances and also the ‘Carnival by day’. The different stages distributed throughout the city centre hosted performances that made everyone dance throughout the day and well into the night.

The most awaited Carnival

On Friday, 17th February, the big parade took to the streets hitting play on the most eagerly awaited festival by its faithful followers. The music and joy of the carnavaleros and carnavaleras, from the island itself or visitors, continued throughout the following week. The Tenerife Carnival has been a Festival of International Tourist Interest since 1987, and finished with its famous burial of the Sardine – in honour of the city’s fishing past – last Wednesday. But the party didn’t stop there as the ‘Piñata weekend’ followed, which included more acts and events, all day and night.

International attention to Carnival

The success of the Tenerife Carnival has been confirmed once again, as hotels in the island’s capital were full, welcoming thousands of travellers who wanted to get to know its most multitudinous and fun festival, as well as the diversity of its destination. What’s more, many take advantage of their stay to take part in outdoor activities at an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
