The Swedish Government have announced that they are moving towards a post-pandemic future as almost all Covid-19 restrictions are set to be lifted.

This announcement sees Sweden lift the testing requirements for travellers arriving from the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland. Travellers from this area will not be required to show proof of vaccination.

While travellers from areas outside EU, EEA, and Switzerland will be required to wait until March 31, when the current ban on non-essential travel from third countries expires.

Restaurants and bars will no longer be required to close by 11:00pm, with customers no longer having to present vaccination certificates to enter hospitality establishment. Mask mandates on public transport have also been revoked.

Sweden has also stated that they will no longer require people to report a positive covid-19 test. All state-funded testing programs are set to shut down, with private health-care companies remaining open to provide tests for those seeking to travel to countries which still require a negative test result.

Neighbouring countries, Norway and Denmark have also lifted restrictions. With Norway eliminating quarantine restrictions for inbound foreign travellers, with international visitors required to provide proof of full vaccination or recovery from Covid-19. While Denmark has became the first European nation to lift all Covid-19 restrictions on February 1, as international visitors can now enter Denmark with proof of vaccination or recovery from the virus. Arrivals to Denmark will not be required to undergo testing or mandatory quarantine.
