Support Your Local Travel Agent

With restrictions on non-essential retail due to ease next week, many local travel agents are looking forward to welcoming you through their doors.

The overarching message from most NI retailers is to “shop local” and “support local businesses”. This is true of travel agents as well.

Chairman of the Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents (ANITA) Damian Murphy has given a cautious welcome to the re-openings.

He said: “Here at ANITA we are confident of a bright future for the travel industry here in Northern Ireland.

“Recently Jet2 holidays announced extra seats from Belfast to both Tenerife and Dalaman – showing their confidence in the market for summer 2021. We know we still have someway to go until we are anyway close to what we can call normal but we feel now we really can start looking to the future with more confidence.

“Summer 2022 is already selling well and there has been a noticeable increase in interest for travel this autumn in the last couple of weeks.

“As the rest of the economy starts to re-open so travel must re-open as well and it is really important that we get it right this time. The process needs to move forward at a steady and safe pace but also one that is irreversible.

We have basically been closed now for over a year and while this news is positive we still have a long way to go.”
