One Step Close To Summer Holidays as EU Approves Use of Vaccine Certificates

The European Parliament has approved the launch of a Covid-19 digital passport scheme

The European Parliament has approved the launch of a Covid-19 digital passport scheme, bringing free movement and summer holidays one step closer.

The EU Covid-19 certificate will show proof of a vaccination, a recent negative test result or show that the user has recovered from the virus.

In response to fears of discriminating against non-vaccinated travellers, MEPs called for ‘universal, accessible, timely and free of charge testing.’

The vaccine passport scheme will be in use for a period of 12 months and is adopted only for travel purposes.

The EU is working with the World Health Organization to ensure the vaccine certificate can be used beyond Europe, however it is not yet known when it will be made available to UK citizens.
