NI Executive Must Give Clear Guidance on Travel Restart – ANITA

ANITA calls on NI Executive to give clear guidance on travel re-start

Ahead of an expected announcement early next week from Boris Johnston on the re-start of international travel ANITA have called for the Northern Ireland Executive to act promptly to the announcement.

Damian Murphy from ANITA said: “We are expecting Boris Johnston to make some sort of statement early next week about the re-start of foreign travel – a week before his task force are due to publish their full report.

“There has been much speculation about whether he will run with 17 May (his initial date for a travel restart) or push this back to some date in June, but whatever the outcome we are calling on our executive to be clear from the start if they are
following this date or going with one of their own.

“It is vitally important that everyone who is involved in the outbound travel industry here can start to plan around the travel re-start date.

“The Northern Ireland Executive has set out a recovery plan committing to the gradual risk-based unlocking of the economy. We support the same approach for international travel, building on the success of Northern Irelands’s vaccine rollout and falling rates of infection here and using measures where necessary to mitigate against the risk of importing the virus into Northern Ireland.”
