In a bid to crack down on ‘Drunken Tourism’, venues across the party island of Mallorca have banned the wearing of clothing items, including football tops.

Holiday goers wanting to party it up on the streets of Mallorca may have to take into careful consideration of what they are wearing this Summer, as the island looks to crack down on a culture of binge drinking.

Eleven venues in the Playa de Palma area, nearby Palma airport, have expressed their disgruntlement with drunken tourists and in a bid to crack down on this, have instituted a ban on different clothing, with QR codes presented outside premises to scan to view the full list.

This follows after the island, along with Ibiza, cracked down on inclusive drinks packages and drink promotions along the strip, to discourage tourists from ‘over doing’ it.

The list of banned items include football tops, strapless top , swimming trunks, swimsuits and items purchased from street vendors such as gold chains and glow in the dark hats.

It is expected that other establishments in the area will follow on the ban soon.

Speaking to local Spanish media,Pedro Marín and Juan Miguel Ferrer, manager and chief executive of Playa de Palma explained how large groups of tourists arrive and spend their money “generally on alcohol and cans of beer that they consume, drinking on the street.”

During the day, tourists can expect these bans to be lest serve, however, it has been reiterated by businesses that the ban will have a no exception policy during the evenings.
