Hurtigruten Hopes Zero-Emission Cruising will be Plain Sailing

Hurtigruten is aiming for carbon-neutral operations by 2040

Nordic cruise line Hurtigruten, known for its hybrid power ships, is aiming for carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

CEO Daniel Skjeldam says the changes will in part be driven by customer demand for more sustainable cruise travel.

To meet this, Hurtigruten unveiled ambitious plans for a truly zero-emission ship, powered by solar and wind energy.

The ship would have three retractable wind sails integrated with large solar panels.
