British passport holders preparing to jet off on holiday this summer are being warned to check their passports.
That is because those with a red one could be banned from entering some countries as they may have less than six (or three months in some cases) validity left.
Entry rules for each nation vary, so it is worth checking before you jet off.
In some countries passports must be valid for another six months after your departure date for international travel – something which travellers can easily overlook.
A number of countries also apply a three-month validity rule. That applies to non-EU passengers (which now includes the UK) meaning the passport must be valid for three months after the date you leave the EU.
VisaGuide.World says there are 70 countries with the six month passport rule, and 41 with the three month rule. All red passports in the UK are due to expire soon, so it is recommended that holidaymakers check their validity to travel.
Countries who have a three-month rule on passport validity include popular holiday-hotspots such as Portugal, Malta, Greece and Spain.
