Heathrow Warns of Flight Delays During National Period of Mourning for the Queen

Heathrow has warned travellers that they may face some delays during the national period of mourning for the Queen and on the day of her funeral

The official Heathrow Airport Twitter told today’s flyers this morning that their flights may be delayed.

The tweet read: “Out of respect for the period of mourning following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, some flights between 13:50–15:40 on Wed Sept 14 will be disrupted to ensure silence during the ceremonial procession. Airlines will notify passengers directly of any flight changes.”

Royal Correspondent Charlie Proctor further reiterated: “Heathrow Airport has delayed flights this afternoon to ensure the procession of The Queen’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall is not disturbed, and so there is complete silence on The Mall.”

British Airways confirmed that 16 of its flights were cancelled because of this.

These were travelling to destinations including Amsterdam, Faro, Rome, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Basel, Stockholm and Warsaw.

Passengers affected by the delays were offered the next available flight or a full refund.
