Broadway Theatres Closed until June

New York's Theaterland will remain closed until June 7

Broadway theatres had to adhere to social distancing and lockdown rules amid the coronavirus outbreak and were shut down on March 12 with a preliminary period of one month. Given the ongoing situation, the theatres are now set to remain closed until June.

The covid-19 crisis is still affecting New York City worst of all, and much of the US advised to stay at home, the extensions of public venues was expected.

“All New York City Broadway shows have now been cancelled through Jun 7, 2020,” said theatre owners’ association the Broadway League.

“When this unexpected intermission comes to an end – and, make no mistake, it will come to an end – we’ll once again gather at lobby bars.”

“Our top priority continues to be the health and well-being of Broadway theatre goers and the thousands of people who work in the theatre industry every day,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League.

The reopening date is still uncertain and some shows that were due to open on Broadway this spring have been forced to cancel with New York still the US coronavirus worst affected zone with more than 140,000 confirmed cases.
