British Airways Fills Aircraft with Supplies for NHS

British Airways flies medical supplies from China into the UK for use during the battle against COVID-19

British Airways are flying much needed medical supplies from China into the UK to help the NHS in their fight against the Coronavirus outbreak. Several British Airways medical supply flights loaded with goggles, face guards, gowns and ventilators departed from Shanghai Heathrow bound the make the important delivery of vital equipment.

The first of many flights over the coming days left China on April 9 with cargo including 55 tonnes of hand sanitiser. Supply flights are being operated in partnership with IAG Cargo and the UK government.

“We have been working round the clock to bolster the NHS supplies and save lives and we are seeking further deliveries as a matter of urgency,” said Nigel Adams, the UK’s minister of state for Asia.

British Airways is one of the 14 airlines which has partnered with the UK government in a bid to repatriate British people who have been stranded abroad in these uncertain times.

Alex Cruz, British Airways’ chairman and chief executive, commented: “We are doing all we can to support the global response to Covid-19, whether it’s flying important medical supplies in to the UK or helping to bring Britons home.

“We will continue to use all available resources to support the government, the NHS and communities all over the world who might be in need of our help.”
