Last year we brought you the story that Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) was set to offer eco-friendly five-hour flights from Liverpool to Belfast by blimp. Now the company are set to offer flights in Spain.

People in Northern Ireland who are still waiting on the chance to fly on the British-made helium airships on the proposed Belfast to Liverpool route, may instead get the opportunity to but to fly over the skies of Spain.

Bedford-based HAV has announced it had signed a deal to provide 10 of its unique 100 passenger helium airships to Spanish airline Air Nostrum.

The airline is hoping to put the airships in the air by 2026.

Carlos Bertomeu Air Nostrum’s president, said: “The Airlander 10 will drastically reduce emissions and for that reason we have made this agreement with HAV.

“Sustainability, which is good news for everyone, is already a non-negotiable fact in the daily operations of commercial aviation.”

The airline did not say which routes it would use the aircraft.
