Airlines and Airports are warning customers of flight delays after a 'technical issue' has hit UK Air Traffic Control Systems

Airlines and airports are warning customers of flight delays after a ‘technical issue’ has hit UK Air Traffic Control Systems.

Reports of this technical issue began this morning (28 August 2023) with Britain’s National Air Traffic Services stating that it was experiencing “technical issues.”

The National Air Traffic Service highlighted that “Engineers are working to find and the fix the fault. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Airports and Airlines have took to social media platforms to warn travellers of possible delays due to the network-wide system failure.

As a result, travellers are being advised to check the status of their flight with the airline in advance.

Belfast City Airport took to social media platforms to warn travellers of delays.  The statement reads, “due to an ongoing UK-wide flight planning system technical issue, disruption to flights is highly likely. Whilst this issue is out of our control we are advising all passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport.”

Dublin Airport also took to social media, informing travellers that “Air Traffic Control issues in the UK today are resulting in delays and cancellations to some flights into and out of Dublin Airport. We advise all passengers due to travel today to check the status of their flight with their airline in advance of travelling.”

Loganair was one of the first airlines to warn customers of delays, highlighting that, “There has been a network-wide failure of UK air traffic control computer systems this morning. Although we are hopeful of being able to operate most intra-Scotland flights on the basis of local coordination and with a minimum of disruption, north-south and international flights maybe subject to delays. If you are flying with us today, please check our website for the latest information about your flight before setting off for the airport.”

Currently, UK Air Traffic Control have not indicated how the failure has occurred.
