THE TOP 10 LEAST DISCOVERED VIEWPOINTS TO VISIT IN LONDON THIS SUMMER

King Henry’s Mound is revealed as the most undiscovered viewpoint in London, with only 733 hashtags on Instagram

Summer 2022 is now in full swing and there is something very special about a summer in the city. But perhaps we don’t know London as well as we thought? This is why The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences has analysed the least discovered viewpoints in London, so if Brits want to take in a nice view, but not visit the same old attractions surrounded by tourists, this list has them covered.

Forget the view from the London Eye and The Shard, these are the most undiscovered views in London to enjoy this summer…

The Top 10 Most Undiscovered Viewpoints in London

King Henry’s Mound, in Richmond Park, boasts incredible views of Thames Valley. Not only can you see St. Paul’s Cathedral, but the view has also been preserved by generations of landscapers in order to protect the viewpoint. With only 777 hashtags on Instagram, the chances of seeing some Insta-worthy views without the crowds are high. With 2,500 acres of land and lots of wildlife to spot, there’s also lots to explore.

A perfect option for foodies is the second most undiscovered viewpoint in London –  the Aviary Rooftop in Finsbury. You’ll be able to catch a view of the London skyline, including The Shard and a close-up view of 20 Fenchurch Street, commonly known as the Walkie Talkie building. Surprisingly – and despite its snap-worthy views across London – this hotspot has just 1,000 hashtags on Instagram.

If you’re after a view of the capital that is a little bit more popular with a few others around and a bit of a buzz to it, Peckham offers some amazing viewpoints. Both the Rooftop Cinema Club and Frank’s Cafe feature in the top 10 list of undiscovered viewpoints in London.

Escaping the Big Smoke

Although still situated in London, if you fancy getting out of the hustle and bustle of Central London, the slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit offers incredible views of London Stadium and the London skyline. Ranking 11th place in The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences’ list of undiscovered views, this viewpoint has an adventurous side to it as you’ll have to slide down the world’s longest tunnel slide (178m) to reach the ground.

The ArcelorMittal Orbit has nearly 15,000 (14,600) hashtags on Instagram. Although it’s not as undiscovered as some of the other rankings, it certainly will provide you with some breath-taking views of London and perhaps be less busy than the likes of The View from The Shard which attracts 1 million annual visitors.

The Most Instagrammed Viewpoints in London

Although the most Instagrammed viewpoints are likely to be a bit busier than the likes of King Henry’s Mound and Aviary Rooftop, there is no denying they offer incredible views of London.

Unsurprisingly, The London Eye came out as the most Instagrammed viewpoint in London with over 3 million hashtags. Tower Bridge came in as the second most Instagrammed viewpoint in London with 2.5 million hashtags  – no surprise seeing as you can see the likes of Monument, Millennium Bridge, The Shard, London Eye and The Walkie Talkie building from Tower Bridge

If you’re visiting from afar and need a hotel to stay in, The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences in Mayfair has an exclusive tenth-floor residents-only lounge. The View offers panoramic views of the London skyline and overlooks all the city’s major sites including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the London Eye, and of course, The Shard.

Joanne Taylor-Stagg, General Manager at The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences: “With comfortable seating and design-led furniture, the club offers a true retreat from city life. It’s a sanctuary in which guests can enjoy a daily complimentary tipple and nibbles from our restaurant, 116 at The Athenaeum, while soaking up uninterrupted views of the city. Or with our expansive whisky collection, what better location to enjoy a guided tasting, complete with cheeseboard than The View.”
