According to research commissioned by Eurostar in celebration of it’s 10-year anniversary partnership with celebrity chef, Raymond Blanc , six in ten holidaymakers plan their holidays around gastronomy.

Eurostar conducted a study of 2,000 travellers which revealed that food and gastronomical experiences were the major drivers in tourism. Especially, for city break holidays.

In this study, almost a quarter of travellers admitted that they have a ‘wish-list’ of restaurants to trial on their vacation.

Adding to this, 36 percent of the participants felt that to gain an authentic experience of a country’s food that they must ty local and independent restaurants.

Travellers also determine if the restaurant they are dining is filled with locals when deciding on a place to experience authentic gastronomy.

55 percent of survey takers admitted that they opt for a diverse food holiday to learn about international cuisines and how these dishes are prepared. With 46 percent also having opted to book a food tour or a culinary cooking class while on holiday.

Acknowledging these figures, a spokesperson for Eurostar highlighted “Like many of those polled, we’re passionate about food, and have demonstrated that through our partnership with one of the world’s greatest chefs.

“To celebrate, Raymond has curated a special sustainably-sourced menu for 10,000 of our Paris to London Business Premier passengers, which will be available until November 23rd.”
