Analysing TikTok views and Instagram hashtags for 118 destinations set to be popular in 2023, Betway has revealed the locations across the globe we can expect to take over our feeds in 2023. They’ve also analysed Google search volume to predict which locations are set to see the biggest increase in tourists in 2023.
Italy is the most popular country for travellers according to social media
Analysing TikTok views and Instagram hashtags for countries around the world, Italy comes in first place as the most in-demand according to social media. From the Colosseum to Lake Como, Italy is full of picture-perfect locations, with almost 90 billion TikTok views and 158.5 million Instagram hashtags.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom comes in second with a whopping 187.3 billion views on TikTok, making it the most viewed destination on TikTok overall.
Japan comes in third as the most popular country to travel to according to TikTok and Instagram, boasting almost 163 million Instagram posts, making it the most Instagrammed location in the study.

Paris is the most popular destination according to social media
Looking at TikTok views and Instagram hashtags for popular destinations for 2023, including cities, towns and islands, Paris is revealed to be the most popular according to social media. Home to the Eiffel Tower, the Mona Lisa and countless picture perfect cafés and restaurants, Paris has 6.8 billion views on TikTok and almost 137 million Instagram posts.
Meanwhile, Istanbul, rich in culture and home to the magnificent Hagia Sophia, comes in second place. Bali follows in third thanks to its incredibly picturesque beaches.
Home to this year’s Eurovision, Liverpool comes in seventh place as the most popular destination according to social media with a whopping 53 billion TikTok views and over 16 million Instagram posts.

Morocco set to see the biggest increase of tourists in 2023
Looking to try somewhere new for your 2023 travel plans? Beyond the most popular destinations on social media, the study also reveals the countries we can expect to see the biggest increase in tourists in 2023 based on the increase in Google search volume over the past six months.
Morocco, home to the culturally rich cities such as Marrakech and Fez, comes out on top with Google searches increasing by almost 64% in the past six months, whilst sunny Croatia comes in second, followed by Costa Rica.
