Arts, Music, and Theatre; See It All in Sacramento

California’s capital is full of interest just waiting to be discovered, as well as being the festival destination of the West Coast

California’s capital is full of interest just waiting to be discovered, as well as being the festival destination of the West Coast it is also home to a huge variety of art, ballet, theatres, music and museums. Sacramento has something to suit all tastes whether that’s in a museum or on the walls of the city. From Aftershock, the city’s annual rock festival headlined by Guns N’ Roses in 2023, to Sacramento philharmonic orchestra and opera, the city has it all.

The city’s murals

Visitors don’t need to enter a museum to see art in Sacramento, there are over 650 murals painted across the city. This number continues to grow every year when the city hosts the Wide Open Walls festival in August. Artists from the city and across the globe gather to create art on the walls of Sacramento that everyone is able to enjoy. Both visitors and locals alike gather to watch artists cover the city in colour with artwork that is inspired by California, Sacramento and the city’s history, community and culture.

The Crocker Art Museum

The Crocker Art Museum is a cultural hub for Sacramento, it is known for its collection of California Impressionist art, German drawings and everything ranging from contemporary to antiquity. The museum was originally used to house the Crocker family’s art that they had collected across Europe in the 1870’s. Over time the museum’s collection has since expanded and underwent a $100 million renovation in 2010, it is partially housed inside a Victorian house that has been brilliantly preserved in its original form.

Performing Arts in Sacramento

Sacramento is home to well respected performing arts groups, including the Sacramento Ballet, which holds performances throughout the year with a festive favourite being the annual Christmas production of The Nutcracker. The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera also holds both orchestral and operatic concerts throughout the year that will truly make for an unforgettable evening.

Festival destination of the West Coast

As the ultimate festival destination of the West Coast, what better reason to visit California’s state capital than for one of the many festivals held there year-round. The city has a festival for just about anything from Kites to beignets, theatre arts to arts and crafts. If its music visitors are looking for, Sol Blume is held in Sacramento in August celebrating the best of R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop music, followed by Aftershock rock and metal festival, and Golden Sky country music festival in October. The Farm-to-Fork festival is a must, taking place in September it combines music with the very best of the city’s delicious local farm produce.
