Wendy Wu Tours has reported a ‘booking frenzy’ for tours to Japan as news broke that the country is poised to fully reopen for tourists this summer. The operator and its partners in Japan have been working hand in hand with the Japanese Government over the last 18 months to ensure its tours meet all health and safety guidelines, as stipulated by Japan’s prime minister Fumio Kishida, and is now ready to go as soon as the green light is given.
In the last seven days alone, the operator has seen a staggering enquiries spike of almost 170% up on the previous week, with nearly 75% of these enquiries from agents, as demand surges for autumn 2022 and spring cherry blossom tours in March and April 2023. Wendy Wu has seen an unprecedented demand for spring cherry blossom departures in 2023, adding more than 600 seats to its fully inclusive tours are now selling out in record times.
Commenting on the news, Glen Mintrim, chief executive at Wendy Wu Tours, said “Japan has taken a very positive move in relaxing its Covid requirements for UK travellers from 1 June, as well as increasing the daily number of international arrivals into the country from 10,000 to 20,000. We have been working closely with the Japanese Government and our agents on the ground in Japan, and can now say that, following the ‘test tourism’ initiative with triple-vaccinated visitors this month, we’re confident of a full reopening this summer.”
Mintrim goes on to add “With demand at an all-time high and tours selling out within days of days of going on sale, we encourage agents to book for their customers now, to avoid disappointment, whilst prices are competitive.”
