Spanish Journalists Get a Sense of ‘Wilde’ Fermanagh

Five Spanish journalists have been exploring Fermanagh’s literary hotspots, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.

The journalists, who write for a Spanish magazine and various newspapers, are here finding out more about one of our literary greats, Oscar Wilde, who has connections with Fermanagh. Tourism Ireland’s aim is to highlight our rich literary heritage in Spain and inspire potential Spanish holidaymakers to visit Northern Ireland and explore that heritage in 2025 and beyond.

The journalists’ itinerary includes learning about the Wilde inspired ‘In Our Dreams’ festival, which takes place in October, and exploring the deep connections to the writer in the town of Enniskillen – by enjoying the ‘Follow the Swallow’ trail and taking a boat tour with Erne Water Taxi.

Susan Bolger, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Spain, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to invite these influential Spanish journalists to discover more about some of our top cultural attractions and literary greats – and, in particular, Oscar Wilde. The articles the journalists write when they return home will be read by millions of Spaniards, so this visit is a great opportunity to showcase our rich literary heritage to a wide audience of prospective Spanish visitors.

“Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Northern Ireland – and visits by influential journalists like these are a key element of that programme.”
