Silversea Chief Reassures Local Agents After RCI Investment

Luxury cruise line Silversea hosted a dinner for cruise agents in the beautiful surroundings of the new Hastings Grand Central Hotel in Belfast recently

The event was an opportunity for the new Managing Director of Silversea Peter Shanks to meet some key cruise agents in Northern Ireland.

He was there not only to introduce himself to agents, but to also reassure them with regard to the recent investment in Silversea by Royal Caribbean which now gives RCI  a majority shareholding.

With his experience of his time at Cunard and the Carnival association, Peter Shanks was able to assure the Trade that Silversea is the “Jewel in The Crown” for Royal Caribbean and the quality of the product will only be enhanced by the new relationship.

With new ships rolling out over the next few years, and the refurbishment of the already popular Silversea fleet, the new MD was very upbeat about the future, especially with the Silversea World Cruise product already two thirds sold.

He also pointed out that Silversea are always looking to support agents, and the news of the opportunity to sell flights out of Dublin in sterling coming in the next few months was warmly welcomed by everyone at the Belfast dinner.

Peter Shanks went on to highlight some of the unique Silversea itineraries including Antarctica and the Expedition Cruises, with late departures and overnights in port. Also discussed were the London Skyline Tower Bridge sailings.

The evening concluded with a Q&A session and the local agents departed in the knowledge that commission levels were secure and the Silversea product will continue to develop in the right direction – maybe a bit more informal but certainly not trying to replicate the bigger ships, “small ships have more space,” was the parting message.
