Self-Care Takes Centre Stage at If Only

Luxury tour operator If Only are going above and beyond to support their team this Peaks, introducing a range of office activities and training schemes designed to encourage mindfulness and self-care.

The operator recognised that a combination of busy days and industry challenges could increase employee stress levels, and wanted to ensure that they were taking the right steps to help the team relax and unwind amidst the hustle and bustle of Peaks.

Gordon McCreadie, If Only Product & Distribution Director talks yoga, mindfulness and management training: “If Only are lucky to have such a fantastic team. We need to ensure that each and every individual is getting the support and time out they need during Peaks to manage workplace stress, which I’m sure we all experience to some extent in our roles. We decided to introduce a number of measures to try and encourage the team to take some time out for themselves and refocus – I’m a big believer that small steps can make all the difference.

“This January, we invited a trained masseuse into the office to deliver mini massages throughout the day. We also introduced regular yoga sessions for employees – some during lunchtime, some after work – with a trained instructor, who demonstrates a range of stretches and breathing exercises to help everyone turn off and recharge. For those not so keen on traditional yoga, we’ve offered desk yoga – that’s right, yoga poses you can implement on a day to day basis from the comfort of your desk, and a huge help to those who suffer from back or shoulder aches. On top of this, the instructor has run midday mindfulness sessions, which can be the perfect way to take refocus your energy after a hectic morning. Later this year, our managers and team leaders will also be taking part in training to help them promote mental health and self-care in the workplace, so we are striving to ensure that we’re well properly equipped to support our fantastic team.”

The operator has been delighted with the response to their yoga and mindfulness sessions so far, which has seen employees across the board, including the team of directors, get involved. If Only are currently in the process of planning similar activities, due to take place throughout the course of the year.
