President of Menorca Sends Message to Travel Trade

Susana Mora, President of Menorca sends optimistic message of hope to the travel industry ahead of 2021

As 2020 comes to a close, the Susana Mora, President of Menorca has sent a letter to the UK travel industry.

Dear travel colleagues,

First and foremost, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

It has been a devastating year for the travel industry and Menorca has suffered immensely by the lack of British tourists. Nevertheless, we know that the British travel market is a resilient one and we remain optimistic ahead of 2021. Huge efforts have been made to ensure that tourism can restart safely, and we eagerly await the return of British visitors. We are optimistic that the 2021 visitor numbers will return to pre-pandemic levels.

The British public love Menorca. Approximately half a million British visitors travelled to Menorca in 2019 and the UK is our most popular inbound tourism market. We are proud of what we offer our visitors; from sandy beaches with crystal clear waters to picturesque countryside, wonderful hiking such as the bird-rich dunes of the UNESCO S’Albufera Nature Reserve, prehistoric ruins to discover our history and our vibrant festivals.  The simple but high quality 0KM food in Menorca has seen a resurgence in recent years and we are proud to support our local farmers and small producers.

There is no denying that next year will be challenging but we remain positive. The recent news of a vaccine and the opportunity for mass testing is very encouraging. Earlier this month, Jet2 announced that they will operate three weekly flights from its new base in Bristol to Menorca in summer 2021 and we are also being supported by the major UK tour operators.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the British travel industry for their ongoing support and for their continued confidence in Menorca as a top travel destination. From the retail travel staff, through to the product managers and airline workers.

Our very best wishes for the festive season.

Susana Mora
President and Minister of tourism promotion for the Menorca local government
