Possible Merger of Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways

It has been reported that a possible merger between Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways is in the works

It has been reported that a possible merger between Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) could be in the pipeline.

Heizo Takenaka, a former minister and advisor to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga made the merger suggestion following the announcement that South Korea’s top two airlines Korean Air and Asiana were set to agree a merger deal.

Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways are Japan’s top two airlines.

With both Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways seeking government aid to navigate the Covid-19 crisis, a government advisor said a merger may be in the government’s and the airlines’ interest.

“ANA and JAL should come together at this time. Now would be an opportunity for such a bold mechanism,” Mr Takenaka said.
