Northern Ireland Travel Industry Deflated by Latest Jobs Scheme

The Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents have voiced their concerns over the Chancellors latest update

The Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents have voiced their concerns over the Chancellors latest update, saying the travel industry across Northern Ireland feels “deflated”.

Following yesterdays update on the end to the jobs furlough scheme from the Chancellor, Mr Rishi Sunak, and its replacement, the Northern Ireland travel trade feel they have once again been forgotten about.

Chairperson of ANITA, Damian Murphy of Terra Travel said: “The latest job offering from Mr Sunak is off no benefit to the travel industry here and in fact in some cases travel agencies may actually be worse off.

“It was hoped the new scheme would help to save jobs but I fear this will not be the case. Myself and Richard Cooper from Carefree Travel have already made contact at the highest government level here and have been assured of meetings – hopefully next week – with both Mr Conor Murphy and Mrs Diane Dodds.

“This will give us a chance to put our case face to face and to try and once again make them aware of the absolute urgency of our current situation and the need for financial support for everyone in Northern Ireland involved in the travel industry.

“We are constantly hearing about other sectors in the press and on TV and about how pressing their case is but we rarely hear our sector mentioned. We are working as fast as we can to bring a positive outcome for all concerned,” he added.
