NI Travel Trade Profiles: George Harwood

From Scotland, to Banbridge and now to our profile series - George from Clubworld is next up!

Name: George Harwood

Workplace: Clubworld Travel Banbridge

How long you been with them: I’ve only been with Clubworld for just over a year, but I’ve been in travel for over 5

First ever job: I did an apprenticeship in Environmental Services with Perth & Kinross Council which was basically a year of doing other peoples admin

Best holiday destination: Very cliché but Florida in general has a bit of everything doesn’t it? Theme parks, space centre, beaches, the Keys, Everglades, Miami… could go on forever

Favourite city hotspot: I loved Valencia! It’s not flocked with tourists compared to some other cities, has a perfect mix of modern architecture & Romanesque buildings, the markets are amazing, stunning beachfront, it has one of the most iconic football stadiums in Europe and It’s the birthplace of Paella.. tell me what’s not to like!

City Break OR Sunshine: Definitely sunshine, although a city break with good weather is just as good as anything else

Window or aisle airplane seat: Actually don’t mind – as long as I’m not in the middle!

Favourite airport: Edinburgh. Closest airport to my home in Scotland so I’ve used it so many times and never had a bad experience! A Wetherspoons pint before a flight is tradition

Dream / Ideal travel buddy: Karl Pilkington would be hilarious, if you’ve ever watched An Idiot Abroad you’ll know why. Ideal travel buddy would be my girlfriend (just in case she see’s this) who is also an NHS nurse in Craigavon so big shout out to her!!

Somewhere you want to go that you haven’t been to: I’ve never been to Asia/Australia so I’d love to fit in a multi-centre trip stopping in Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia then travel around Australia. Bit of saving to do for that one though

Favourite holiday drink: Cant go wrong with an ice cold San Miguel

Favourite holiday food: PAELLA. Every. Single. Time.

1 x travel tip: Wherever you are going, try and learn a bit of the language before you go. Even if you’re bad at it, locals definitely appreciate the effort!

Proudest moment in travel: There’s a few but I don’t think anything can compare to what we’re all doing right now. I have never been more stressed in my life than the past two months but seeing everyone work together to get through and doing everything to help customers is pretty reflective of the positive attitude of the industry as a whole
