Malta Launches Second Travel Agent of the Year Award

Malta loves travel agents! Malta Tourism Authority launches second travel agent of the year award for national travel agent day 2021

In celebration of the UK’s National Travel Agent Day on 23rd July 2021, Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is running its Travel Agent of the Year award for the second consecutive year.  MTA is asking travel agents to recommend a colleague to win the coveted award and for a chance to win a three-night city break for two at the Embassy Valletta Hotel to be redeemed in either 2021 or 2022.

The winning agent and the nominating travel agent will also win a place on the Malta Academy 2022 FAM (exact dates TBC). The FAM trip will provide the agents with a flavour of the archipelago with an included wine tasting session at a local vineyard, a visit to a sheep farm to learn how to make traditional Gbejna cheese as well as a meal prepared by a Maltese Michelin chef. Time will also be spent exploring the island of Gozo and Malta’s capital city, Valletta.

Speaking about the award, Tolene van der Merwe, Malta Tourism Authority’s Director UK & Ireland said: “Travel agents have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic.  We have been in touch with so many during the lockdowns and we’ve heard how hard they have worked on behalf of their clients during these exceptionally difficult times. At Malta Tourism Authority we are so grateful for their continued support to share Malta, Gozo and Comino with holidaymakers. This is one of the reasons why we love the concept of National Travel Agent Day UK and wanted to create our own way of thanking agents for their dedication and perseverance.  Now that we are on the UK’s Green List, we are continuing to welcome back British tourists* back to enjoy our sunshine, culture, food and warm spirit and we look forward to rewarding some very special travel agents with a trip of their own soon.”

Malta Tourism Authority trade trainer Peter Green added: “Travel agents’ resilience and attitude during these difficult times continues to amaze me, so we cannot wait to see all the entries come in.  The people of Malta are known for being passionate and friendly and we want to reward our travel agent partners who continually go above and beyond for their clients. Perhaps they have created something altruistic in these challenging times or completely reimagined their businesses to make things work for the team. Whatever it might be, we want to hear about it and share some positivity.”

Winners must be recommended by a fellow travel industry professional in a 200 word entry. Nominations should be sent to office.uk@visitmalta.com by the 24th August 2021 and the winner will be announced on the MTA Trade Facebook Page. Winners will be chosen by the Malta Tourism Authority UK office and will receive a three-night city break to Valletta and the award title ‘Travel Agent of the Year’.
