Ambassador Cruise Line has launched its first augmented reality experience for iOS and Android, which has been designed to offer guests on land an unrivalled digital tour of Ambience through augmented reality technology and 360° video.

Conceived and created in collaboration with 3rockAR, the augmented reality specialists, ‘Let’s Cruise’ is the premium value, no-fly cruise line’s first ‘in your pocket’ app, which can be enjoyed on the majority of smart phone and tablet devices*.

The principal benefits of the technology is that guests receive an engaging and immersive AR/VR and mixed reality experience without the need to download the app itself. Free and easy to use, all guests need to do to is scan the QR code or click this link

The app can also be used by travel agents as a way to offer prospective Ambassador guests a taste of the Ambassador experience.

Once connected to ‘Let’s Cruise’, users will be prompted to allow the app access to their device’s motion sensors and camera before moving onto the front page, which welcomes guests with the legend ‘Say Hello to Britain’s Premium Value Cruise Line’. Instructions outlining how guests can explore Ambience as though they were on the ship, win prizes, share the app with friends or book a sailing are clearly indicated, with guests progressing to the next level by clicking on the ‘Let’s Cruise’ icon’.

Guests will then be greeted by an avatar based on Ambience’s hotel director and offered the option of virtually touring some of Ambience’s public spaces by clicking on the relevant icon. These include the ship’s restaurants, such as Buckingham Restaurant or Saffron, bars and lounges including the Observatory and Purple Turtle Pub and a selection of cabin types.

Moving the device around changes the perspective of the video footage, offering an immersive 360° view of the key areas on board.

To bring a further element of fun to ‘Let’s Cruise’, a treasure hunt-style game sees Golden Tickets hidden in different parts of the ship, which guests can collect during their journey.  If they collect all 12 Golden Tickets, they can then submit their details to be in with a chance of winning one of three £25 onboard credit vouchers each month.

Gordon Nardini, Chief Marketing Officer, Ambassador Cruise Line, “We are delighted to launch our first augmented reality app, which offers guests a fantastic opportunity to explore Ambience and get a taste of all that Ambassador has to offer those guests that sail with us. It’s a great way to build even deeper interactions with our guests through the power of augmented reality technology.”

Ian Brookes, co-Founder and Managing Director of 3rockAR, said: “The fresh approach Ambassador has towards everything in the cruise industry makes them an ideal partner for 3rockAR. Being able to play a part of a completely different customer experience has been so rewarding. We can’t wait for the next phase.”

The footage onboard Ambience was shot using state-of-the-art 360° camera technology to capture every detail of the ship. The video footage from each camera was then edited together to form a seamless virtual experience using 3rockAR’s In Your Pocket webAR technology

The ‘Let’s Cruise’ app has been launched ahead of the roll-out of Ambassador’s 2024/25 itineraries for both Ambience and her sister ship, Ambition, which joins the fleet in May. Details of the sailings are due to be released in the weeks to come.
