Initial Meeting Between ANITA and Economy Minister Takes Place

The Economy Minister did not rule out the possibility that the NI travel community could be included for consideration in the Executives' underspend allocation at today's meeting

Representatives from the Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents (ANITA) today (October 1) met with Economy Minister Mrs Diane Dodds.

Mr Damian Murphy from Terra Travel and Mr Mukesh Sharma MBE met with the Economy Minister to discuss .

Damian Murphy commented: “We had a frank and informative meeting this morning and it was obvious from the outset that the Minister, Mrs Diane Dodds, had a good grasp of our situation.

“We used to the meeting to bring some ideas to the table and to go over items already submitted. We were offered a warm welcome from the Minister, but she made it clear that the number one priority of the Executive at present was keeping Covid-19 under control.

“On the jobs support front she could offer us little in the way of hope of any changes to the scheme just announced, as this is controlled in full by Westminister.

“She did however state that the Executive currently had an underspend and that some of this money was still to be allocated. She did not rule out the possibility that the Travel community of Northern Ireland could be included. I intend to continue dialogue with her private secretary Mr Dan Cartland as early as tomorrow.”
