Northern Ireland Travel News is joining TTG is urging the industry to get behind the latest step in the #SaveTravel campaign, a ‘Twitterstorm’ on Thursday (October 8) ahead of the government’s latest travel corridor announcement.

At 10am on Thursday (October 8), the industry is being urged to post the same tweet, aimed at transport secretary Grant Shapps.

The aim is to try to drive home the message that the sector needs urgent support from the government, and a better solution than the current travel corridor announcements.

Sophie Griffiths, editor of TTG, said: “We are still yet to hear a response from Grant Shapps or chancellor Rishi Sunak to our #SaveTravel letter, which was now delivered more than a month ago.

“Enough is enough. The government needs to wake up and recognise that many businesses in the travel sector are now on the brink. The sector needs urgent support to #SaveTravel now.

“If everyone in the industry tweeted this identical message at the same time, it would perhaps force Shapps to take notice of the frustration and anger in the travel sector at the lack of support and government acknowledgment of the unique challenges facing the UK travel industry.”
