HICAP Announces Innovation Award Recipient

CEO & Joint Creative Director of Soneva to be honoured at HICAP

HICAP is pleased to announce that Sonu Shivdasani the Guardian of the Culture (CEO & Joint Creative Director) for Soneva, will be awarded the HICAP Innovation Award. Mr. Shivdasani will be presented with the award at the 30th annual HICAP being held 23-25 October 2019 at the Kerry Hotel Hong Kong.

The HICAP Innovation Award recognises and celebrates an individual(s) or company who has created innovative products, services, ideas, or processes that have enhanced, expanded, or advanced the hospitality and tourism industries in the region and beyond. Recipients are determined by special committee comprised of senior level industry participants.

Sonu Shivdasani was born and studied largely in England, with some periods of his education being in Nigeria and Switzerland. He is an alumnus of Eton College and a graduate of Oxford University, where he received an MA in English Literature. Whilst the role of CEO and Chairman of The Soneva Group keeps him quite busy, he still finds time to enjoy reading, art, architecture, wine, travelling, and wellness.

Together with his wife Eva, he founded Soneva Fushi in 1995 in the Maldives, pioneering the trend for back to nature luxury holidays. The Shivdasanis also established the Soneva Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting the development and operation of projects and campaigns that have a positive environmental, social and economic impact.

Adding to its special nature, the Award is not given out every year. Prior recipients of the HICAP Innovation Award include: Tony Fernandes, Group CEO, AirAsia Berhad; James B. Sherwood, Founder & Chairman Emeritus, Orient Express Hotels Ltd; Sheldon G. Adelson, Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer, Las Vegas Sands Corp; The Founders of WATG – Jerry Allison, Don Goo & Greg Tong; the Founders of Regent International – Robert Burns, George Rafael, and Adrian Zecha; Sol Kerzner, Founder and Chairman, Kerzner International; and Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Holdings.
