Help at Last for Northern Ireland Travel Industry – ANITA

ANITA, who were instrumental in persuading the NI Executive to provide financial support for the travel industry in Northern Ireland have said that the new support package will give everyone in the industry a "chance to survive and to look to the future"

After months of negotiations the Northern Ireland Executive yesterday (March 11) announced a financial support package for the Northern Ireland travel industry.

ANITA, who were instrumental in persuading the NI Executive to provide financial support for the travel industry in Northern Ireland have said that the new support package will give everyone in the industry a “chance to survive and to look to the future”.

Damian Murphy, Richard Cooper and Tracie Duffy of ANITA were instrumental in securing the assistance on behalf of the trade and issued a joint statement.

“We are delighted that our efforts have finally led to some assistance for the travel industry here
In Northern Ireland,” a joint statement said.

“Our talks began in early November 2020 and we had a lot of persuasion to do to get this in place. The speed at which things happened in the last few days has taken us by surprise and the amounts involved were determined by the Executive themselves.

“When we look at other types of financial help on offer such as further rates relief-another start up grant and the current closure grants the overall package will give us all a chance to survive and to look to the future.

“The scheme closely mirrors the Scottish scheme announced last month and although we don’t yet know the mechanics of how it will work we will be in touch with everyone early in the week to help with the process.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped us throughout the process with particular thanks to the First and Deputy First ministers for their personal involvement at a time when they have so much to deal with.”
