Derry Girls’ Stars Big Draw at Travel and Tourism Awards

Stars of the Derry Girls hit TV series will be a big draw this coming Friday at the 27th Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards in Association with Blue Insurance, organised by Northern Ireland Travel News

The Derry Girls personalities will be hot-footing it straight from working on the set of the second series of the highly successful Channel Four show, to host the glittering Awards gala in the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa on Friday.

‘Derry Girls’ Saoirse Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, Louisa Harland, (Orla), and Dylan Llewellyn (James) will be hosting this year’s Awards ceremony when the winners of 31 different categories will be honoured.

Derry Girls is the biggest TV series ever in Northern Ireland. The first series had an average of 519,000 viewers – and 64.2 per cent share of the Northern Ireland audience. And the show’s stars are sure of a great reception from more than 430 guests at the Gala on Friday night.

The Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards is the most eagerly anticipated event in the local travel and tourism industry and has been organised by Northern Ireland Travel News since its launch in 1992. Over the years it has established a reputation as one of the top Travel and Tourism Awards ceremonies in the UK and Ireland.

This year a total of 31 Awards will be handed over in the various Travel and Tourism categories with the most sought-after accolade in the retail section of the industry, for the Northern Ireland Travel Agent of the Year, once again the last Award to be presented.

In addition to the stars of Derry Girls, the gala will showcase a wealth of contrasting entertainment, beginning with a special performance ‘From the Mountains to the Sea’, including classical musicians, Irish dancers, Celtic drummers and contemporary performers in a stunning presentation, sponsored by Tourism Ireland.

Also making sure the night goes with a swing  will be the Jet2holidays Orchestra and Soultown Groove with late night DJ Paul McKenna rounding things off with even more music in the early hours.
