Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a 14-day quarantine for all UK arrivals, Colin Stewart, Chairman of the Latin American Travel Association and Country Director of Air Europa has urged the government to “engage constructively with the aviation and travel industry”.
He said: “We are disappointed with the government announcement of a blanket quarantine for UK arrivals which will be extremely damaging for the travel and aviation sector that has already been hit hard by the pandemic.
“On behalf of our LATA members, we urge the government to engage constructively with the aviation and travel industry to develop carefully coordinated measures that are necessary to prevent the spread of the virus and mitigate risks based on scientific evidence instead of a blanket approach that will result in tens of thousands of job losses.
“The travel industry was one of the first sectors to be hit by this pandemic and whilst we understand and support government initiatives to prevent risk, we urge the government to provide a clear timescale for these measures as well as outline the details for how these measures will end.
“We urge the government once more to engage with the travel industry to coordinate appropriate measures and help protect the future of the sector,” he added.
