COVID-19: Fred. Olsen Staff Raise Money for NHS Charities Together

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines staff travel a quarter of the distance around the world in challenge for NHS Charities Together

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines staff have walked, run or cycled more than 6,800 miles in the month of May – more than a quarter of the way around the world – as part of a challenge to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together.

On 1st May, team members who were homeworking or on furlough leave set off on the united mission to travel around the world, in a show of support for the travel industry at a time when travel is on hold.

The challenge was created by Ellie Fulcher, Sales Manager – Groups and Affinity, who said: “We have had great fun in virtually travelling across our wonderful world over the past month. Each day we have been sharing pictures from our walks, runs and cycles, and it has been such a great way to see each other’s faces while we are all unable to physically be together.

“The challenge has certainly brought us back together as one team, and to see that we are already over a quarter of the way around the world, and over half way to our fundraising target, is very rewarding.”

Every Wednesday, the team have also been participating in a virtual class with FTC gym, which neighbours Fred. Olsen’s headquarters in Ipswich, Suffolk, to help add more miles towards the total.

The ‘Around the World Challenge’ ties in with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Virtual Cruise programme, which takes in a new destination each week, as well as celebrating some of the things we all know, love and miss from cruising. This includes encouraging guests to Walk A Mile With A Smile and share their pictures every Wednesday morning, in place of the daily morning walks on board.
