CityJet Pilots Picket Airline’s Dublin HQ

CityJet pilots are set to picket outside the airline's Dublin headquarters in protest at plans to close its base there

CityJet pilots are set to picket the airline’s Dublin headquarters in protest at plans by the company to close its base there.

The airline plans to let go most of the 57 pilots it has based in Dublin.

Unions claim CityJet will instead use pilots from outside the country to operate the contracts it has with SAS, effectively resulting in offshoring of work that had previously been undertaken by pilots based in Ireland.

CityJet has rejected the offshoring claims, calling them “inaccurate”.

In a statement, CityJet said: “Whilst CityJet continues to operate services in Scandinavia, the future requirement will be less than previous years.

“CityJet had 21 aircraft operating in Scandinavia in 2019, it is expected that this will reduce to just 15 aircraft required from March, 2021.

“CityJet has employed crews in Scandinavia since 2015 – and aircraft operating in Copenhagen are staffed by approximately 200 locally-based crews on local labour contracts and Danish taxation structures.

“The Copenhagen-based positions on offer to Dublin crews will be as part of this return of aircraft in Scandinavia.”
