COVID-19: ABTA to Hold UK-Based Conference in Place of 2020 Travel Convention

ABTA has announced the postponement of its 2020 Travel Convention which was to be held in Marrakech and will instead host a UK-based conference later this year

ABTA had been due to hold its annual conference in Marrakech, Morocco in October this year but the annual event which was due to take place in October has now been pushed back to 2021 and will be replaced by an industry seminar this autumn, in the UK in its stead.

ABTA Chief executive Mark Tanzer explained the event will be an amalgamation of the Travel Convention and its Travel Matters conference, the focus of which will be ‘issues and opportunities as the industry rebuilds from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic’.

More information about the seminar will be released in the run up to the event.

The decision to defer the Moroccan based arrangements after discussions between ABTA and the Moroccan National Tourism Office and the agreement between both that the current situation required attention and resources to deal with the “critical situation impacting the travel industry in both the UK and Morocco”.

Tanzer added: “We are very disappointed to have to postpone this year’s planned convention in Marrakech, but the current circumstances left us with little choice.

“I am delighted the Moroccan National Tourism Office has confirmed its support for hosting the event in October 2021, and I have no doubt that the convention then will be a great success for our hosts, our delegates and our headline partners.”
