As with all Variety Cruises, the Ionian Odyssey embarks from Marina Zeas in Athens and crosses the Corinth Canal to reach the Ionian and its islands. The cruise itinerary includes the following islands stops: – Kefalonia – Paxoi – Meganisi – Ithaca – Corfu – Angistri – Aegina and back to base in Marina Zeas.
First island stop is the picturesque port of Sami in Kefalonia made famous from the book and film “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. Why not visit the famous Melissani Cave or stroll around the serene Karavomilos Lake. Optional excursion include the enchanting Drogarati cave, wander through the capital town of Argostoli, pay homage to the island’s patron saint at the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, and savour the flavours of renowned local wines at one of the island’s prestigious wineries to try the local variety of Robola.
Next stop is Antipaxos, a gem nestled close to Paxos, renowned for its small size and its stunning beaches and turquoise waters. In the afternoon, setting sail for Gaios, the heart of Paxos and its main town and port Gaios with its picturesque charm.
After Paxos/Antipaxos, is Corfu. Enjoy a full day at leisure exploring both the town, especially the Old Town which is a UNESCO site and the island’s main sites from Mouse Island an Vlacherna Church to the Achillion, Empress’s Sisy palace where she spent most of her life after living the Austrian court. One of the highlights whilst at Corfu is the Greek Night onboard the ship with the local dancers’ trope demonstrating local dances and of courses the chef serving Greek delicacies.
Overnight sailing and wakeup at the small but perfectly formed Meganisi, a little haven island neighbouring Lefkada. Why not swim, take breakfast, walk around the island and enjoy a BBQ onboard before sailing to Ithaca, the homeland of the Greek hero Ulysses. Setting sail for Vathi, Ithaca’s main port, a picturesque panorama, featuring colourful houses adorning the waterfront, traditional tavernas, and charming shops that imbue the town with a serene atmosphere.
Leaving behind Ithaca, M/Y Harmony G, sets sail for the return journey with stops at the historical town of Messolonghi, where the famous poet Lord Byron left his last breath in 2024 during the Greek Revolution. Why not take a walking tour into the lagoon, renowned for its biodiversity and a bird sanctuary. Ideal spot for some bird watching tracking the various migratory bird species make this habitat their own. After an evening meal, it’s time for the return journey to Marina Zeas via the Corinth Canal and final stops at the islands of Aegina and Agistri before docking and disembarking.
