Figures from January to December 2017 show an increase of 20 per cent, with more than 58,402 UK visitors travelling to the destination during this 12-month period.
The report shows the number of overnights spent in Estonian accommodation establishments by UK tourists was 128,076 – a rise of 19 per cent on 2016. The picture postcard beauty of capital city Tallinn (pictured) has been drawing visitors from the UK and Ireland over the last two decades, now more and more people from the UK are trying out this great value destination.
The news comes as the destination celebrates ESTONIA 100 in 2018 – a special programme of events and initiatives to mark the Republic of Estonia’s 100th Anniversary of Independence. An exciting programme of art, music and history-themed events has been released to further promote the destination.
It is the fourth year in a row Estonia has experienced an increase in British visitor numbers, demonstrating a significant growth in its appeal to the UK market. The launch of the BA London Gatwick – Tallinn direct flight in early 2017 has contributed to the rise in UK visitor arrivals by making it easier for UK travellers to access the high tech and innovative Baltic destination.
Director of Visit Estonia, Tarmo Mutso commented: “It is an incredibly exciting time for Estonia and the rise in visitor numbers from the UK is testament to our efforts in promoting the destination to this key market. We are thrilled to see a growing interest in our country. Estonia offers an incredible mix of experiences for all ages, including nature activities, rich cultural offerings, unexpected food delicacies and unique wellness experiences.
“As we prepare for the official ESTONIA 100 events to begin, we hope to attract even more visitors throughout the year to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion.”
