A first in the UK, one of its major city’s has announced a visitor tax.

Manchester will become the first UK city to introduce a visitor tax which will be inflicted on hotel prices.

The launch means hotels scattered across the city will have the £1 tourist tax placed per night, per room, with the city expecting to gain £3m per year with this tax alone.

There are currently 73 accommodation properties signed up to the new levy.

This follows the news that Edinburgh is planning to place a £2 visitor ax, awaiting government approval.
