Two New Golf Positions Filled at Lough Erne

Lough Erne Resort announces Damian Mooney as new Golf Professional and Barry McCauley as Golf Operations Manager

Lough Erne Resort has assembled a brand new, expert team to drive its golf offering for players of all ages and abilities.

The 5-star resort – which boasts two Championship Golf Courses – has appointed Damian Mooney, three-time Ulster PGA winner, as its new Golf Professional and promoted Fermanagh native, Barry McCauley, to Golf Operations Manager.

Big-hitting Damian has more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry and is a leading name on The Irish PGA Circuit. He has played in numerous events like the Euro Pro Tour, Challenge Tour, and European Tour, and played and captained the first ever Irish Team to win the European Team Championships in Spain.

Damian is delighted to take up the role of Golf Professional at Lough Erne Resort where, as a player, he was successful in winning one of his Ulster PGA Championship titles at Castle Hume.

“I am very enthusiastic about this new opportunity with Lough Erne Resort. They have premium golf facilities and some exciting development plans for the future. We hope to encourage golfers of all abilities to visit the resort and we will be making an extra effort to introduce more juniors from the surrounding areas to the wonderful game of golf.

“The team here have made me feel very welcome and we are looking forward to reopening our facilities to members from 1st April 2021 and the wider public in the near future.”

Damian will be available to provide tuition based at the resort’s Golf Academy, as well as delivering indoor and outdoor group lessons.  Members and visitors will also be able to tap into Damian’s vast experience with the resort’s state-of-the-art trackman technology along with the option for golf club custom fitting to improve your game.

Barry McCauley, with credible operational experience from various roles within the resort, now heads up the golf operations. This strategy focused role includes the management of the resorts retail outlets, practice facilities at The Golf Academy, golf course green fees and time sheets, organisation of corporate golf events and golf societies, golf competitions, not to mention networking and meetings with Golf Tour Operators who bring International golfers to the resort.

Barry believes Damian will be a great asset to the resort.

“Our mission at Lough Erne Resort, as a premier golf destination, is to provide exceptional golf experiences. The introduction of our new Golf Professional Damian Mooney strongly endorses this mission, with his professionalism and golfing calibre which is highly regarded within the golf industry.”

Barry’s connection with Lough Erne Resort stretches back to 2004 when he began working in the Castle Hume Clubhouse whilst studying at Queens University. His association with the resort has been in place ever since, initially working as part of the greenkeeping team when The Faldo Course was being created and progressing through to his more senior appointment as Resort Sales Manager.

Lough Erne Resort, which has previously been voted one of the top golf resorts across Ireland – owns two renowned courses, The Faldo Course, a top 100 course (UK & Ireland) designed by 6-time major winner, Sir Nick Faldo, and Castle Hume Course, which has been host to 10 Ulster PGA Championships.

The resort has been closed since lockdown began on 26th December 2020 and is set to welcome back members from 1st April 2021. No date has been set by the Northern Ireland Executive to permit the reopening of the resort and golf facilities for non-members, but it is hoped it will be in the not-too-distant future as the resort looks forward to a strong Summer ahead.
