TUI Chief Remains Optimistic About Summer Holidays

TUI's Chief Executive says he is remaining optimistic about the prospect of summer holidays, saying the operator expects to operate up to 75% of its usual schedule this summer

TUI Chief Executive Friedrich Joussen has said he is optimistic about the prospect of summer holidays following the UK’s successful vaccine programme.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Joussen said bookings in March had hit 2.8 million, with the company expecting to operate up to 75% of its normal schedule for the summer season.

“We are still confident that we will have a decent summer,” he said.

“All medical advice we are getting as a company says that existing vaccines are working with existing variants.

“Now they might be less efficient sometimes, but still it’s much better than not being vaccinated.”

Britons are set to be allowed to travel abroad for foreign holidays from May 17 under the Government’s road map to easing coronavirus restrictions. Northern Ireland is still waiting on clarity from the NI Executive over when international travel can resume.
