Travellers have been advised to ‘exercise increased caution’ in the Dominican Republic following a spate of robberies directed at tourists.
The State Department updated its advice by issuing a level 2 travel advisory saying that there is a heightened risk of crime and an increase in sexual assaults.
“Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide and sexual assault is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic,” it states.
Visitors are warned not to try to fight back during robbery attempts.
