Tourists Asked to Avoid Hawaii in What is Described as ‘Risky Time’ to Visit

Governor David Ige has asked for tourists to avoid the islands as hospitals beds are filling up and services are overwhelmed in what he has called a ‘risky time’ to visit.

In a statement, Ige has said: “I encourage everyone to restrict and curtail travel to Hawaii. It’s not a good time to travel to the islands.”

“We are seeing more Covid patients in our hospitals and the ICUs are filling up. We know that we need to take action now in order to reduce the spread,”

The Hawaii Tourism Authority has also approved this message as CEO and President John De Fries stated: “We are strongly advising visitors that now is not the right time to travel, and they should postpone their trips through the end of October,”

This comes after the islands witnessed a quick rise in cases over a number of weeks with health officials worried that “health car systems will be crippled” if things don’t change.

The United States is currently under the Amber Travel List for the UK which is understood to include Hawaii.
