Tourism Bosses Hit Out At Environment Secretary

Tourism bosses have hit out at the Environment Secretary after he said people should not take holidays abroad unless 'absolutely necessary'

Travel bosses hit out at Environment Secretary, George Eustice, after he said the public should not go on foreign holidays ‘unless it’s absolutely necessary’.

Mr Eustice said people should take staycations over a holiday in the sun saying “we’ve got some great places here”.

The Minister’s comments were met with fury from the travel industry who have been struggling for the past 15 months.

Adding to the confusion, it emerged that the Foreign Office is still declaring Portugal safe for holidays despite the UK government downgrading it to the Amber List.

It has refused to advise against non-essential travel to Portugal and the islands of Madeira and the Azores.
