This Morning Travel Expert Criticised for Promoting Quarantine Loophole

This Morning Travel Expert Simon Calder has been heavily criticised for his advice regarding a quarantine loophole

This Morning Travel Expert Simon Calder has been criticised for advising a This Morning viewer with advice on how to avoid quarantine if returning from holiday in Spain.

During a travel segment on This Morning, he reportedly told a guest that they could avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon their return from Spain by exploiting a loophole.

He said: “The only way to reduce two weeks of quarantine you have to serve when returning here is to, believe it or not, leave the country again.”

Mr Calder suggested that it was within the rules to come home, then head straight off on another holiday to another country.

Fans of the show took to Twitter to brand the advice ‘irresponsible’.

It was announced over the weekend that Spain was no longer on the quarantine-free list of destinations people can travel to without quarantining on return to the UK.

Now anybody returning to the UK from mainland Spain or its surrounding islands must self-isolate for two weeks at home to avoid spreading coronavirus. The advice also applies to holidaymakers who flew to Spain BEFORE the advice was changed.
