Revolutionary in its build, Celebrity Edge reimagines cruising for the luxury traveller with a unique outward facing design which connects guests more closely to the ocean than ever before. A new perspective on cruising sees guests treated to breath-taking suites that feature open-air plunge pools and 270 degree views, an outdoor Rooftop Garden, a Magic Carpet suspended from the side of the ship and the only place to peloton bike race at sea.
Accommodating over 2,900 guests, and designed in collaboration with an A list of global architects and designers, Celebrity Edge is more than 1,000 feet long. The new ship will be officially named and launched by UN Messenger of Peace and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai on 4 December 2018.
Jo Rzymowska, vice president and managing director, Celebrity Cruises UK, Ireland and Asia, explains: “Celebrity Edge has to be seen to be believed – there is simply no other holiday retreat at sea or on land like it. Taking luxury cruising to a new level, the ship has been four years in the planning, design and build. Through collaboration with world renowned designers and architects, we have reimagined what it means to holiday at sea and can’t wait for the world to experience it.”
Featuring a ‘Magic Carpet’ all-glass venue suspended from the side of the ship, Celebrity Edge boasts a host of marvels never attempted at sea before. The first cantilevered venue on the ocean, the innovative Magic Carpet moves 14 decks up and down the exterior of the ship, offering different experiences ranging from an exclusive restaurant, Dinner on the Edge, to an embarkation lounge for the ship’s private luxury launches.
Accommodation on-board has been masterminded by celebrated interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE and allows guests to bring the outdoors inside, with stylish Infinite Balconies that incorporate outside space into the room, blurring the boundaries between ship and sea.
Celebrity Edge features some of the most expansive and luxury suites found at sea, ranging from twin-level villas with outdoor plunge pools to suites with 82 feet of glass commanding stunning vistas out to sea from the lounge, bedroom and dining room – with a better view than the Captain.
One of the most imaginative spaces on-board is Eden, spanning three decks and offering more outward facing glass than any other room at sea. Created by world-renowned designer Patricia Urquiola, architect Scott Butler and theatrical mastermind, Variety Worldwide, Eden offers a multi-sensory fusion of one-of-a-kind culinary and entertainment experiences. With an 18 feet tall Library of Plants living wall – higher than the average house – Eden maximises the freshest of cocktail and menu ingredients.
With 29 distinctive restaurants, cafes, bars and lounges, Celebrity Edge takes culinary experiences to a new level. On-board dining encompasses everything from a steakhouse and raw bar to Le Petit Chef, where dinner is brought to life through engaging digital animation.
Guests will also enjoy a generous spa and fitness centre, designed by Kelly Hoppen, which delivers a wealth of experiences never before offered at sea. At its heart, is the SEA Thermal Suite, featuring eight nature-inspired therapeutic experiences as well as everything from quartz crystal treatment tables to the first Peloton bikes at sea.
The unveiling of Celebrity Edge marks a season of extensive investment from Celebrity Cruises. The ship is the first of four new vessels being delivered between now and 2022 including the second in the Edge-class, Celebrity Apex which will launch and be based in Southampton in spring 2020.
