Six out of Ten Don’t Plan to Change Travel Plans Because of COVID-19

Six out of ten travellers are not planning to change their travel plans as a result of Coronavirus

New data from AllClear Travel shows that six out of ten (60%) travellers are not planning to change their travel plans as a result of Coronavirus.

With this in mind, Chris Rolland, AllClear Group CEO, advises the best way of ensuring booked holidays are protected against the constantly changing situation around Coronavirus is to have comprehensive travel insurance in place.

Some things to keep in mind regarding travel insurance are:

  • If you took out insurance and booked your holiday before the FCO advised against ‘All but essential travel’, then your travel insurance should cover you for cancellation to that destination. This can include any unused travel and accommodation costs if you have to cancel your trip or cut it short.
  • In the first instance you should always approach the airline, your tour operator or your travel company for a possible refund or to see if they will amend your itinerary.
  • You should also be covered for emergency medical expenses if you contract Coronavirus while you are on holiday to a country where the FCO advised it was ok to travel at the time of your departure.
  • You should also be covered for your lost holiday should you have to cut short your trip and are required to return home due to the Coronavirus.
  • If you’re quarantined before your departure due to Coronavirus and cannot go on holiday, providing you have booked your trip and bought your travel insurance policy prior to being aware of the need to be quarantined, you should be able to submit a cancellation claim for consideration.
  • If you’re stuck overseas and you’re unable to return to the UK, your existing policy should automatically extend in line with the terms and conditions to cover you until you’re able to return home.
