See New York In An Entirely Different Way

Uber sets to launch their new helicopter service

Ride-sharing app Uber is adding helicopter transfers for the first time in New York.

Trips between JFK airport and Lower Manhattan begin on July 9, although initially they will only be available to Uber’s Platinum and Diamond rewards programme members.

Flights are operated by partner HeliFlite and cost between $200 and $225 per person for the eight-minute journey.

The fare includes a pick-up and drop off by a conventional Uber. Users can schedule a trip during weekday afternoon hours and pre-book from five days in advance to just one hour before departure.

Uber says the service will save travellers up to an hour compared to being stuck in city traffic.

It offers competition to helicopter start-up Blade, which also provides a similar service from Manhattan to the three main New York area airports.
